What was this thing?
The Saddleback Visual Arts / CreativeChurch Arts Conference was a unique, full three-day conference and retreat October 18-20, 2018 at the beautiful Saddleback Rancho Capistrano Retreat Center. Creative leaders, arts ministry practitioners, and renowned artists shared visionary ideas and practical applications during sessions, workshops, creative and interactive performances and experiences. Attendees explored applications for the arts and creativity in the local church, discovered creative inspiration, experienced refreshing and empowering ministry, connected with their creative tribe, and had the opportunity for personal or team retreat time in a beautiful setting. *
Who should have come?
This conference was for anyone at all interested in how God can reveal his love through the arts and creativity. We hosted volunteer or part time artist leaders, staff church leaders (Pastors, Worship Arts Pastors), artists interested in ministry, and arts supporters. They discovered inspiration, practical models, creative community, and a refreshing creative retreat at the Saddleback CreativeChurch Arts Conference.
What did it cost?
The conference ticket was $225, which included breakfast each day and one special dinner. All main sessions, workshops, performances, and experiences were included in the ticket price.
We had Friday evening ($20) (Rick Warren) and Saturday Single Day ($75) (includes Treasure (ish) Hunt dinner) tickets available for those who couldn’t make the entire conference.
Where did they stay?
This is really cool: we had a limited number of lovely on-site rooms at the retreat center, available at an incredibly affordable price. We wanted to enable most attendees to stay on the property, so double occupancy was encouraged. All beds are Queen sized.
What was the setting and retreat center like?
Everyone who attended was bowled over by the beauty of the location. Its 170 acres of rolling hills, a lake, palm trees, prayer walks, Spanish-style buildings, fire pits, on-site lodging, and Orange County sunshine. See the “Setting” page for more pictures and more details.

What kind of creative experiences were there?
In addition to the sessions, workshops, and retreat time in a beautiful setting, we offered many inspiring creative and interactive experiences and performances! See the list HERE.
Could attendees contribute?
Yes! Many of you have insights, ideas, and experiences to share about the arts in the church, so at the Saddleback CreativeChurch Arts Conference attendees had opportunities to contribute to the conversation.
(* Note: Most church “creative conferences” focus on either music ministry, tech ministry, or preaching. Our focus is on the visual, performing, and interactive arts*–powerful, yet often neglected creative resources for local churches. * = painting, dance, installations, drama, sculpture, galleries, arts outreach, congregational art, etc.)
